What are Fields in Tana?
Fields are a type of node that holds structured information, requiring a name and a data type. Field helps you record additional details about nodes such as: Status, Deadline, Priority, Person in charge, Project... anything you want to record consistently , everywhere.
Fields components in Tana
Fields have two main components: Field Definition and Field Value .
- Field definitions include the field name and type, as well as its configuration.
- The field value is the actual value of the field, which can be entered manually or automatically initialized when a Supertag is applied .
In addition to being used to record Metadata associated with nodes that help create links with the Knowledge Graph network, the field is also used in defining queries for nodes.
Search nodes to narrow the search by specific field values, for example finding all #tasks
that > ββPerson in charge include the value "Hoang HXN".
There are many different types of schools such as:
- Plain field
- Optional field (Options)
- Instance field (Instance)
- Date field (Date)
- Number field (Number)
- User field (User)
- Checkbox field (Checkbox)
There is also AI-enhanced Field. Each type of field has its own characteristics and uses.
Fields can be added to any node, but it's better to use our supertags to create a field template you want to apply every time a new #person

, or #movie
is recorded.
